The well-known Albanian soldier, Major General Jani Kiço Lufi, has passed away in Krasnodar, Russia.

The news was announced by the Russian embassy in Tirana, at the same time expressing condolences for his passing away.

After the liberation of Albania from the Nazi invaders at the end of November 1944, Jani Lufi decided to link his destiny with service in the Armed Forces. Later, among the young Albanian cadets and officers, he was sent to study in the USSR.

Due to the difficult circumstances surrounding the breakdown of Soviet-Albanian diplomatic relations in 1961, he decided to stay in the USSR and continue his military career there. In 1962, he graduated from the "MV Frunze" Military Academy. He then served in various command positions. In 1983, he was given the rank of major general. In total, Jani Lufi served in the ranks of the Albanian and Soviet armies for 48 years of his life.

In 2003, his autobiography "From an Albanian Partisan to a Soviet General" was published in Russia, which was then translated into Albanian. Jani Lufi, despite his advanced age, until the last days carried out patriotic and educational work with the youth, kept in contact with veterans and public organizations in Krasnodar, took an active position in life and was an example for the citizens of the country ours.
