Putin outraged: If Ukraine uses cluster munitions, we will respond immediately
Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin says he will respond in kind to Ukraine if it decides to use explosive munitions on the battlefield.

Just a few days ago, the Ukrainian military received its first shipment of cluster munitions from the US.

"If Ukraine starts using cluster munitions, Russia reserves the right to respond accordingly," Putin said during a televised interview.

Cluster munitions are projectiles that explode in the air, disintegrating into hundreds of small bombs that target a large area. They are banned by many countries because they do not discriminate on the battlefield, which means they endanger the civilian population.

Putin has said that Russia has different types of these munitions, which it has chosen not to use. A statement that is untrue, as hundreds of rockets with cluster munitions have fallen on Ukraine during more than a year of war.

"Russia has large reserves of various types of cluster munitions. So far he has not used them, despite the lack of ammunition at certain points. Ukraine spends 5-6 thousand 155 mm shells per day. USA produces 10-15 thousand per month. "Supplying cluster munitions to Ukraine is a desperate and hypocritical step for the US," Putin declared.
