Former NATO Commander: West Must Prepare for War '
Richard Shirreff

Yesterday, the British foreign secretary said Russia should withdraw all its troops from Ukraine, according to the BBC.

Liz Truss said the Russians need to leave not only the areas they have occupied in recent weeks, but also the areas they took control of eight years ago. Meanwhile, after Truss's statement, the former deputy commander of NATO also reacted.

Sending more military weapons and strengthening defenses has been described as the "right approach" by former NATO Deputy Commander in Europe General Richard Shirreff.

The former military commander warned that Putin could respond aggressively, but argued that the move was necessary to show the West was serious.

"The worst case scenario is the war with Russia. "Preparing for the worst case scenario is very likely to deter Putin, because in the end Putin respects power," he said.
