Did he fine, or did Competition tolerate the chemical fertiliser oligopolis?

Put at the centre of criticism of apathy, tolerance to the limits of corruptive affiliations and ridiculous punishments against oligopoles in the market, the Competition Authority rushed this Friday to distribute to the media and the public fines imposed on three companies importing and trading in the country chemical waste.

The Competition Authority, to conclude that the companies in question violated competition rules in the majority market by fixing prices, took a year, as it itself announces, investigations have started since last year.

However, better late than never, but are fines imposed sufficiently punitive for companies that have abused the market?

The law entitles the Competition Authority to fine companies they find in violation of competition rules from 2 to 10 percent of the annual turnover. In the case in question, the figure of about 190 ml of money, or approximately 2 billion old leks, sounds fat, but in relation to the annual turnover of companies, the sum in question is a 'shit'.

The company that received the highest fine is AgroBlend, the former mayor of Vora, Fiqiri Ismaili. This company has been punished with about 100 mlof lek. According to balances the company has handed over to QKR, for 2020 it has declared a turnover of 4.5 billion dollars, of which profits are about 385 ml.

The fine in this case is about 25 percent of the profit. But, the law does not specify its placement on the basis of profit, but on the basis of the annual lap and in the case of the fine against AgroBlend, competition has chosen the minimum punishment by fining it with just over 2 percent of the annual lap.

The same has happened with the other two companies, MBM and Chaça.
