Emigrants and living in Albania

I have counted up to 50 families of relatives and close acquaintances, of whom 5-6 have their livelihood completely dependent on the work they do in Albania. Others either have children abroad who bring them money regularly, or go and work on their own, seasonally.

A good part of them live in the village. This year chemical fertilizers increased by 150%. While other inputs again experienced an increase of almost double. The villagers "reacted" to this reality. They did not buy chemical fertilizers and the wholesalers, who had full warehouses, re-exported them to Kosovo and Serbia. So this year we will have less planted land and lower yields.

But how do they live?

Some left their lands without planting or service and fled to work in Greece. With 3-4 months of work there they provide enough income to live a year. While others plant some vegetables for family needs and wait until the end of the month to bring money to children from Italy, Germany, England….
Undoubtedly, there is a category that toils at work and survives from the sale of a can of milk, any other agricultural and livestock production, also helped by the economic aid provided by the state.
Several other families, from the ones I listed above, live in the city. Who in a job in the administration, who by selling what he can, and who else by forgiving economic aid. But almost everyone expects help from immigrant children at the end of the month.
There are those who live well, just as there are those who live badly. There are those in the village who do not have access to land at all, and do not even receive economic assistance, as their children have long worked in emigration and provide them with a rich income, just as there are those who wait for their children's money to pay their debts to the store. of foods.
But in the end, everyone secures enough money from emigration to have bread, cheese and tomatoes and a coffee and a double brandy in the morning at the neighborhood cafe.

This is in fact the picture of Albanian society today. Emigration, in the first post-communist years, saved this people from starvation. But 30 years later, he has become a slave to our society.
Most people modestly settle for standard bread, cheese and tomatoes. And this standard is achieved, mostly, with the help of immigrants. And, a society that is still happy with the fact that it has bread, cheese and tomatoes, does not require standards of democracy and freedom.

Therefore, even today, the government does not allow immigrants to vote. The money they bring is enough for her to keep alive and without pretensions the wise people voting here.
