Bulqiza miners demand pay raises from the Albchrome company to cope, as the severe price growth crisis says.
"This crisis is most vulnerable especially in areas like Bulqiza, among the poorest in the country. Some of the small mining galleries have somewhat increased the miners' wages, but this has not happened at the Albchrome Mine, the largest in Bulqiza and the entire country. The situation is more revolting especially considering the fact that the price of chrome in international markets has almost tripled", their statement says.
The demand for salary increases was sent wednesday to the Albchrome company by the United Miners' Union of Bulqiza.
There are four points in this request; increase in salary, difficulty recognition and additional payment for in-depth work, recognition and payment for seniority at work and treatment with additional payment for moisture in the working environment.
"We are waiting for a positive response from the company and its new executives, in the hope that they will be more cooperative with the workers and trade unions that actually represent workers. Meanwhile, we call on all miners to join the United Miners' Union of The Bulqiza, to organise and gain our rights. Today is our moment!" reads the statement from the United Miners' Union of Bulqiza.
