The Albanian Ministry of Defense has announced on Saturday that two soldiers were injured in an attempt to stop two Russians and a Ukrainian, who tried to enter a military factory in Central Albania.

"Three citizens with Russian and Ukrainian passports tried to enter the factory", said the minister.

"The officers guarding the plant reacted immediately, but during their efforts to stop the three foreign nationals, they injured two of our soldiers", said the ministry, adding that the soldiers are in a stable state of health.

The Ministry of Defense announced that three foreign nationals were arrested. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the three people are "suspected of espionage".

The Ministry of Defense said that one of the arrested, identified only as Russian citizen MZ, 24 years old, entered the territory of the Gramsh plant and was trying to take photos. It is learned that the man used a type of spray against the soldiers while trying to escape after being stopped by the guards.

The other two, a Russian woman identified as ST, 33, and a Ukrainian FA, 25, were also arrested nearby.
Many Russian and Ukrainian tourists visit Albania during the summer holidays. The military base of Gramsci is more than 70 kilometers away from the beaches.

During the period of the communist regime, Gramshi was used for the production of the Russian type AK-49 rifle.

According to the ministry's website, the plant now deals with the production of materials for the defense industry, but did not provide more details.
