Helena and Ismail Kadare got married on October 20, 1963, and since that day they have lived their love story every day.

The fruit of this love were their two daughters, Gresa and Besiana.

Helena Kadare was not only the wife of the greatest Albanian writer and the genius of Albanian literature, but she was also his biggest supporter and supporter in every decision he made.

Between these decisions and the year 2021, to finally leave France and return to Albania.

A few weeks ago, Helena showed on a TV show the acquaintance and start of the relationship with the writer Ismail Kadare.

Their story, all started by a rather beautiful coincidence, certainly resembled the stories of books and movies.

She said that before she met and fell in love with him, she knew all of the writer's poems, while Ismaili did not know Helena at all.

"He received the award of the Republic, I was a high school student and everyone knew that I knew all his poems by heart and they had laid out his newspaper photos for me. He didn't know me at all", said Helena.

Showing previously unknown details, Helena Kadare added:

"I published a story in 'Voice of Youth'. He was in Moscow, he had finished his studies here and went for specialization. Albanian newspapers used to go to a hotel in Moscow. He saw this story and wrote me 3 lines (where he wrote): "I read your story, write and don't be afraid." The whole gymnasium found out about this when this letter arrived. Then, when he came to Albania, we met by chance on the street".

As we said above, the love story between Helena and Ismail Kadare proves the expression "coincidence is the king of the world". She revealed the reason why her husband has never given her a ring. He also said that he has not even received a marriage proposal and that their ceremony made people nervous:

"He didn't give me a ring, because it was a generation that called itself very modern and excluded the old customs. Then it was something conservative, out of our taste. At that time there was no marriage proposal. I was in the dorm, I was a first year student and it was the Writers' Union. "Ismail invited all the writers of the 'Writers' Association' and I invited all the dorm mates, making our relatives extremely angry and also the wives of the writers who were not invited ," she said. What made this story more interesting than ever was that at the party organized by Helena and Ismail Kadare, the writer Dritëro Agolli and his wife Sadija met.

It is not for nothing that Ismail Kadare has been described as the universal voice against totalitarianism, since with his novels he challenged the dictatorial regime of Albania led by Enver Hoxha.

In another television interview, Helena shared the most difficult moment she experienced together with her husband.

Kadare emphasized that they were afraid that they would be exiled because of his published works.

She said that Kadare was taken to Myzeqe to do manual labor but that the latter never agreed to work like that.

"The most difficult moment we spent together was the Plenum. We were afraid of deportation. It was a very strong thing, precisely for the "Palace of Dreams". It was a piece, and when the book came out there weren't any copies to sell because it was stolen from the press. A quick reprint was then made and spread immediately. This was the most difficult moment. Then Ismail was called to the Central Committee. Kadare made a very strong self-criticism saying that the weapon the party gave me I pointed at the party. Then they took him to that village in Myzeqe," she said.

In addition to being the fellow traveler of the genius of Albanian literature, whose works are eternal, Helena Kadare, also known as Elena Kadare, is an author of novels and novels.

She is one of the few Albanian novelists, in the years of the communist regime. Author of seven volumes, her works talk about girlish dreams, the experiences of being a mother and a wife.

She is also a quality translator of several works by world-renowned authors, mainly French.

Over time, Helena became the protagonist of Kadare's books, as Ana was in "Monster", but this was not enough.

Helena Kadare also documented her life with Ismail in "Insufficient Time" even though she never received the consent of her husband, who was categorically against autobiographical books.
