President Donald Trump's administration has revoked over 300,000 U.S. visas during his second term, the State Department said Tuesday, as the federal government continues its broad crackdown on immigration.

This figure shows an acceleration in the pace of visa revocations in recent weeks, following the August 10 update, where the State Department had estimated the number of visa revocations since the start of Trump's current term in January 2025 at over 175,000.

Announcing the latest number on X, State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the Trump administration "has revoked more visas at a faster rate than any administration in history."

Pigott said the administration had "zero tolerance for foreigners here on visas who break the law, commit fraud or harm our national security."

Among the visa revocations are those of foreign pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrating against US ally Israel's attacks on Gaza, and those of foreigners because of their social media comments about the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

In addition to efforts to deport foreign protesters, the Trump administration has implemented tight controls on the social media of immigrants and visa applicants.

Human rights advocates say the government has used national security grounds to target critics and has used isolated cases of fraud to broadly target immigrant communities, such as the Somali-American community in Minnesota.

While Trump campaigned in 2024 on stopping illegal immigration, his administration has also made legal immigration more difficult, imposing expensive fees on some work visas.

Trump says his campaign against immigration and deportation aims to improve homeland security.

Human rights defenders say the crackdown has violated due process rights and freedom of speech and created an unsafe environment, particularly for ethnic minorities, who have raised concerns about racial profiling.
