The Italian government has provided for sentences of 4 to 12 years in prison for persons who incite or promote the creation of groups to organize violent demonstrations, even when this is done through computers and other electronic means.

The measure was announced by Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, after a cabinet meeting at Palazzo Chigi, as part of a new decree on urban security.

During the statement to the media, Nordio explained that the new legislation aims to prevent the organization of violent acts through virtual spaces, including digital platforms used to coordinate protests.

"There is a specific crime punishable by four to twelve years in prison for anyone who, even through a computer or electronic means, promotes the formation of a group" for organizing "violent demonstrations," the minister declared.

Through this intervention, criminal liability aims to include not only persons who directly participate in acts of violence during protests, but also those who contribute to their organization and incitement through online communication.

The decree comes at a time when social networks and messaging apps are widely used to coordinate rallies and mobilize participants. According to measures introduced by the Italian government, organizing violent demonstrations through these channels could carry serious criminal consequences.
