The Elbasan police have arrested two Italian citizens, after defrauding jewelers by selling them fake gold worth 200,000 euros in Tirana and Podgorica.

As part of the "Fake Gold" operation, the Italians Fortunato Maddaloni, 67 years old, resident of Naples, and Riccardi Gennario, 76 years old, resident of Milan, Italy, were arrested.

They were caught red-handed in a jeweler in the city of Elbasan, trying to sell fake gold again. They had first cheated by offering a small amount of pure gold.

"From the investigative actions, it resulted that these citizens, in cooperation with each other, have sold gold (metal) in the form of grains, worth 200,000 euros, in Tirana and Podgorica, during the period June-August 2022. The material that these citizens have sold has resulted afterwards, mixed with other metals." it is stated in the Police announcement.

In terms of material evidence, the blues of Elbasan have seized 3 kilograms of suspected fake gold, 160 grams of pure gold, 4 mobile phones, 1500 euros and 150 Swiss francs.

The investigative materials were passed to the Prosecution of the Elbasan Judicial District, for further procedural actions, for the criminal offenses "Smuggling with licensed goods" and "Fraud".
