FIFA has published the extensive list for the award of the best footballer of the year 2022. The list of 14 players running for "The Best" award is headed by Lionel Messi. He led Argentina to the world title, scoring seven goals in seven games at the World Cup in Qatar, as he was also named the World Cup's best player.

In addition to Messi, there are also Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Achraf Hakimi from Paris Saint-Germain. The Premier League is represented by Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah. Real Madrid have three players in contention after winning the Champions League years ago. Apart from Karim Benzema, who won the Ballon d'Or, in the list for the best of FIFA are Vinicius Jr and Luka Modric.

Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski and Bayern's Sadio Mane are also not missing. There are also some surprising names, such as that of Julian Alvarez, or the Englishman Jude Bellingham. Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of the shortlist after a disappointing year.

Also, there are five nominees for the best coach of the year. Carlo Ancelotti, Didier Deschamps, Pep Guardiola, Walid Regragui and Lionel Scaloni are on this list.

The nominees for the best goalkeeper of the year award are Alisson Becker, Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois and Emiliano Martinez. Voting will be open until February 3, and the winner will be announced at the FIFA ceremony.
