Spanish Super Cup, Ancelotti surprises: Gattuso and I have had personal problems

Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of Real Madrid, admitted that his team is approaching the match against Valencia with the aim of significantly improving the performance offered against Villarreal. Likewise, he acknowledged the need to be much more effective defensively.

The Italian hopes to take advantage of the Super Cup to regain confidence: "Titles are always important for this club. Last season's title gave us a lot of confidence, we hope the same can happen this championship. We have to prepare well for tomorrow , better than in the last match. Let's try to return home with another title".

Ancelotti assured that he was surprised by the decline shown by his side against Villarreal: "The signs in training were good, but the game against Villarreal surprised me. The defensive aspect was not good, so we have to work and show something different. This team knows how to defend better. Defense is fundamental for us, because we have the necessary quality up front."

The coach of Madrid does not consider that the problem is a consequence of the World Cup: "I don't feel the burden of the World Cup. To assess what can happen, you have to wait a little bit. We are hurt by what happened with Villarreal, but "We have to see how the team will react in the next matches. The Supercup is a very important test."

Ancelotti explained the situation with a curious anecdote from his childhood: "As a child at school I had a secret before exams. My grandmother told me to 'put the book under the pillow'. I did that and it always turned out well."

The Italian described as an anecdote the fact that for the first time in the history of the Madrid club, no Spanish player was included in the starting line-up of the last match: "I think it was a coincidence, the matrix of this club is Spanish, clearly. Real Madrid is universal , loved all over the world. We have Spanish players, even in the youth academy."

Ancelotti admitted that his relationship with compatriot Gennaro Gattuso is not the same as always: "We had very nice moments, we won two Champions Leagues together. We have great memories. Afterwards, the relationship was not always good. We have had personal problems, but I don't want to talk about them."

The coach of "Los Blancos" recalled that "many coaches have come out of that Milan", while emphasizing that "Gattuso's teams are intense and have a very clear identity on the field". Finally, Ancelotti remembered Bale when asked about Cristiano Ronaldo: "We wish Cristiano the best. He is a legend of our club, like Bale, who has retired and we wish him all the best for the future. They remain in the hearts of all Real Madrid fans."
