Edi Rama

A day before the next protest in Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama convened the National Council for the Rights and Protection of Children. In his speech, the head of government emphasized the need for a joint plan and said that violence has been relativized and glorified, and according to him, has taken a completely misinforming and miseducational direction.

"This council takes on special importance as a table where different perspectives help us all build an approach that should adapt to the lessons of this moment. I believe and share the opinion that we have become witnesses to a disturbing panorama of the approach of a part of society to a taboo for all democracies, for all paths of coexistence in democracy, which is violence. We have seen how violence has been relativized, justified and glorified. Not only that, but we have seen how violence has taken a completely misinforming and miseducational direction, turning into a stigma of the State Police, while all violators of institutions, schools, everyone's freedom and right to teach, public and private property, have received a citizenship status and media immunity as carriers of an admirable effort to overthrow a system ," said Rama.

Rama announced consultations with parents and teachers on limiting social networks. At the roundtable of the National Council for the Rights and Protection of Children, the head of government considered social networks dangerous, which according to him have influenced the loneliness of young people and the crossing of the boundaries between reality and virtuality.

"What was another disturbing surprise was the significant participation of many minors. Minors who, before we consider them guilty, we should consider them children who need help. Before we think about how to punish them, we should think about how to neutralize the sources from which they feed on the spirit and the lure of violence."

We have closely followed what the democratic world has done in relation to this phenomenon and what France or Italy have recently done where juvenile violence has been extremely present, and of course we could not help but adopt in our approach a penalization of families in administrative and financial terms for the damage caused by their children.

This new situation, cooked up for years in Europe and Albania as a result of similar and different reasons, requires a new approach to everything that helps the physical socialization of people. Social networks have stimulated a loneliness of a very dangerous nature for democratic coexistence and a crossing of the boundaries between the real and the virtual to the point that psychologists have concluded that many of these minors consider such an opportunity to physically enter a playstation and a debate must be opened until when we can limit access to social networks of minors, 16 or 18 years old. We will start a consultation like we did when we had to limit TikTok, we will start consulting in schools and with parents , "said Rama.
