The United States Embassy in Tirana has called on American citizens to exercise caution and avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place in the capital, ahead of the protest announced for Saturday.
In its announcement, the embassy emphasizes that protests in downtown Tirana and near government institutions continue, while some of them have ended in violent clashes, with the use of incendiary devices, stone throwing, and damage to property.
According to the warning, other demonstrations may take place in the coming days, both in Tirana and in other cities in the country.
They can also spread to surrounding roads, leading to increased police presence, traffic jams, diversions, and road closures.
The embassy warns that people near protest areas may be exposed to tear gas, fireworks thrown horizontally, incendiary devices, and rubber bullets.
For this reason, its personnel have been asked to avoid all areas where demonstrations are taking place.
The announcement also states that there may be other closures or restrictions of public services in Tirana, including public transportation and government institutions.
The embassy urges US citizens to avoid protests, be aware of their surroundings, follow local media and authorities' instructions, and always have an emergency or evacuation plan in place for areas where demonstrations may occur.
