The Minister of Interior, Ervin Demo, together with the Director General of the State Police, presented the balance of the protests held over the last two weeks in Tirana.

According to Minister Demo, 347 people were injured in the clashes and incidents recorded during the protests, including police officers, protesters, passersby, and journalists.

In his statement, Demo thanked the State Police for their commitment to guaranteeing public order and security, emphasizing that the officers have faced a level of violence that, according to him, has been unprecedented.

The Minister also announced that the 2027 draft budget foresees a significant increase in salaries for State Police employees.

"A very important draft law, such as the 2027 draft budget, provides for a new financial treatment for State Police employees. The basic salary level will increase by 20 thousand new lek, while for other categories the increase will be by 15 thousand new lek. This is one of the highest increases in recent years for State Police structures," Demo said.

Focusing on the balance of the protests, the minister said that the figures clearly show the high level of violence exercised during the rallies.

"The last few weeks have been very challenging for the State Police and have produced a negative balance in terms of injuries. In total, there are 347 people injured and I do not want to make a distinction between State Police employees, protesters or passers-by. However, these figures show that the level of violence has been like never before," he declared.

According to the minister, of the 347 injured, 200 are State Police employees, 107 protesters and 39 random passers-by, including journalists.

Demo emphasized that the Ministry of Interior remains committed to guaranteeing the constitutional right of citizens to protest, but also to enforcing the law and proportional intervention by law enforcement.

"The position of the Ministry of Interior is clear: we guarantee the constitutional right to protest, but also the proportional intervention of the State Police. In cases where there are suspicions of exceeding powers or the use of force, the necessary measures have been taken," he said.

The Minister announced that currently seven police officers have been suspended from duty and placed under investigation, while the Police Supervision Agency is verifying dozens of other cases referred by citizens or initiated mainly for specific incidents during the protests.

Authorities warned that investigations will continue until each case is fully clarified, while appealing for the avoidance of acts of violence at future gatherings.
