In Tirana, the Albanian government signed a contract today with the Turkish company Baykar, for the purchase of 6 Bayraktar military drones. The signing took place during a special ceremony in the presence of Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi, as well as representatives of the Turkish company, including its executive director Lütfü Haluk Bayraktar.

"We will sign for the complete package. The three drones that will come first will be armed and ready for any eventuality, where and when and I hope it never happens, but we don't live in very safe times, when and where our national security be under threat, in this case we will be ready for war, but in the meantime they will be ready for a full range of activities that will be very beneficial for good governance in the country", declared Prime Minister Rama.

He further explained that " the drones will help us to assemble the traffic, they will help us to follow the wanted persons, therefore they will also serve the police and to monitor the entire territory and reach the capacity of the last word for to fight the cultivation of narcotics in the field, to monitor fires and forests and likewise to continue and ensure that the fight against illegal constructions, also and the exploitation of properties sometimes so to speak to the detriment of public property and sometimes to the detriment of private persons to continue ".

The value of the contract has not been disclosed by the authorities, but during an interview some time ago, Prime Minister Rama stated that "for the purposes we have and for the service they will provide us, they are absolutely at a reasonable price".

The authorities explained that the contract also includes the training of Albanian personnel, as well as the maintenance package for drones, Bayraktar, which became particularly famous, due to their efficiency, in the resistance that Ukraine is making to the Russian aggression against it.

For this reason, the demand from different countries to be equipped with these types of drones has been increasing. Prime Minister Rama also referred to this situation when he thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a special way, with whom he has nurtured a close relationship for years.

" President Erdogan has been essential in this process because we all know that when it comes to unmanned vehicles, "bajraktar" or drones as they are known today, it is not only about the rich, but also about the fact that you are able to pass and enter, pass and push in the queue because the queue is very long and on the other hand is the fact of being from the right side ", said Mr. Rama, underlining the fact that both countries are members of NATO./VOA
