"Golden passports," the member of the European Parliament: Corruption
The Juknevicien race

Rasa Jukneviciene, representative of the largest political grouping in the European Parliament, the European People's Party (EPP), has spoken to ABC, after the publication of the enlargement package by the European Commission.

Euro-deputy Rasa Jukneviciene says that Albania must leave behind the "bad brand" of corruption, which does not help the country to get closer to the EU. According to her, the scheme of "golden passports" is a kind of legalization of corruption.

She says that the change in Albania is expected to be brought by the new generation based on European values and principles, as in her country, Lithuania. MEP Juknevicienė further states that in Lithuania citizens are shocked when they see Serbia's attitude towards Russian aggression in Ukraine and that Serbia cannot be with the aggressor if it will continue the prospect of EU membership.

Regarding the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue, the MEP says that it is a tango that must be danced by both sides and why it should not be only Kosovo that does its homework if there is no good will from Serbia

In the report on Albania, the European Commission underlines the problem of corruption as a serious concern at the political or public procurement level. Does the popular party share this concern?

"Of course yes. Corruption is a worrying problem in many countries, but in Albania this phenomenon has deep roots. It is not only about the government, the politicians, but the country's past is also important. Maybe in Albania the things that happen are not considered as corruption, but in the Scandinavian countries, for example, it is clear that this would be evidenced as corruption. The essential difference between us as Lithuanians and other countries such as those of the North of Europe was precisely our communist or Bolshevik past. It is the new generation that made the difference based on European values and principles. I think the same thing will happen in Albania. Of course, the responsibility remains with the politicians. And it depends a lot on the main leaders of the country. We need zero corruption in everyday life and zero corruption in the political life of the country. Albania should follow the best political experiences in the EU. I wish Albania to get the best experts at the internal and external level to leave behind this "bad brand" that weighs on the country. I have been to Albania and I really like the people. But unfortunately, it cannot be hidden that the "brand of corruption" prevails several times for the country and does not help it to get closer to the EU," says Rasa Jukneviciene.

Rasa Jukneviciene, eurodeputete: “Serbia e mori mesazhin. I takon vendit të vendosë.”

Do you think that visa liberalization for Kosovo is the right step to encourage the country to reap results in finding a legally binding agreement with Serbia?

Rasa Jukneviciene, MEP: "This tango must be danced by both countries. There is no need for Kosovo to do its homework if there is no good will from Serbia. I want to see politicians on both sides understand the momentum they have in front of them. We Lithuanians and Poles have had many problems in the not too distant past. And I hope that our case will serve as an example for others to solve historical problems and live together in the future. There will be no change for Kosovars or Serbs, where they will live from the moment they will live together in the European Union, without visas, without borders, where they will cooperate and enjoy life."
