Lea Ypi signs the letter against Edi Rama

Eleven Albanian organizations and associations based in the United Kingdom have sent an open letter to the Government and Parliament of Albania, expressing support for the civic protests taking place in the country and condemning the use of violence against peaceful protesters.

The letter was also made public by Albanian writer and academic Lea Ypi, who shared it on social media.

In their reaction, diaspora organizations emphasize that the protests represent an increasingly organized and conscious civil society, describing them as an expression of democracy and the constitutional right to hold institutions accountable.

According to the letter, the protests are being attended by young people, parents, professionals and researchers, who are demanding the protection of natural resources, public spaces and increased institutional transparency.

The organizations condemn any form of violence, intimidation or repression against protesters and call on the Albanian government to address their demands.

The document lists four main demands: full transparency for decisions and contracts related to the environment, accountability for concessions and privatizations, protection of the public interest in economic development policies, and opening a structured dialogue with civil society.

The letter was signed by a number of Albanian organizations in Britain, including student associations at various universities such as Cambridge, LSE and UCL, as well as cultural and community groups in the diaspora.
