Former Prime Minister of Albania, Alexander Meksi has reacted regarding the economic crisis that is hitting Europe due to the Ukraine-Russia war.

Through a post on social networks, Aleksandër Meksi proposes to the government to reduce the excise and VAT on fuels by at least 30-40 Lekë (new) per liter for fuel and to protect the price of energy.

Among other things, he proposes that assistance should be given to the poor and retirees.

Full post:

Out of any discussion, the economic crisis that is shaking not only Europe, as a result of Russian aggression in Ukraine, aggravates the Albanian economy by slowing down its development, but also aggravates the lives of Albanian families, whose poorest strata can not afford.

I am following for days what measures the EU or its specific countries are taking, in order to harm as little as possible, the economy as a whole and families in particular. The main measures are in the direction of not increasing, as far as possible, the prices of fuel products (oil, gasoline and gas) and electricity, as well as helping families in difficulty in various and continuous forms.

Both the increase in prices and the extra profits for the state and the traders of fuels and not only them are a result of the War and sanctions, as well as inflation as a consequence. So they are not phenomena of development or progress of the economy. They can be temporary, but also long term ... time will tell.

I see that little is being done among us in this regard, so based on the above experiences I am saying that the Government, as long as it has additional revenues not provided in the approved budget for 2022, must necessarily use some of them to reduce increased prices of these raw materials.

I think or propose that the excise and VAT on fuels should be reduced first by at least 30-40 Lekë (new) per liter for fuels and the price of energy should be protected. At the same time, assistance to the poor and retirees. As well as other measures against extra profits following the example of EU countries
