A tragedy of great proportions has been recorded in the waters between Djibouti and Yemen, where at least 109 migrants, including 15 children, have lost their lives and more than 116 others are missing after an overloaded boat sank.

The devastating news was confirmed this Sunday by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which revealed the shocking details based on direct testimony from survivors pulled from the water.

According to official IOM data, the vessel was carrying around 350 people when it capsized during the night between October 8 and 9, near the Guhera area, north of the port city of Obock in Djibouti.

So far, more than 80 people have been rescued, who according to the organization's reports are all Ethiopian citizens who were attempting to cross to the Arabian Peninsula.
