The Kremlin has welcomed statements by US President Donald Trump, who said that Ukraine needs a new president to replace Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Trump, Ukraine needs a leader capable of reaching agreements.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, called Trump's statements "historic" and an important moment.
According to him, the US president has joined those who support the idea that Ukraine needs a new leadership that would be committed to peace. Dmitriev also accused Zelensky of, in his opinion, contributing to the continuation of the war.
"President Trump joins those who believe Ukraine needs truly peace-oriented leadership, instead of Zelensky's warmongering. Iconic and historic," he wrote.
Dmitriev claimed that oil diplomacy had exposed Zelensky's position. In another post, he also published a 2025 Time magazine cover featuring the Ukrainian president with the caption "Game Over."
Earlier, Trump said that Ukraine needs a president capable of negotiating deals. He claimed that Zelensky had opportunities to negotiate to end the war with Russia, but did not take advantage of them.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that revenues from the export of Russian oil products are helping the Kremlin continue the war against Ukraine. According to him, the consequences of easing restrictions have become especially noticeable against the backdrop of Russian attacks on Kiev.
On the other hand, Trump announced that he had reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply American and global markets with millions of metric tons of Russian diesel oil.
