Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the government has drafted a plan of new support measures for families in need and students, while also announcing the launch of a public consultation on restricting minors' access to social networks.

During his speech at the roundtable of the National Council for the Rights and Protection of Children, Rama stated that the new budget envisages the transformation of the baby bonus into a regular monthly support scheme for children, with the aim of directly influencing family incomes.

Another important issue addressed by Rama was the impact of social networks on society, especially among young people. According to him, their use has fostered a form of loneliness that poses a risk to democratic coexistence and physical interaction between people.

In this context, the Prime Minister stated that a debate should be opened on restricting minors' access to social networks, considering the possibility of setting an age limit of 16 or 18 years.

Rama announced that the government will launch a consultation process with teachers, parents and schools to discuss this issue, also referring to the previous consultation on restricting TikTok.

"Today we have a social and health insurance subsidy for all unemployed mothers raising minor children and who are heads of household, but it is not enough. In the new budget we have decided to transform the baby bonus into a regular support scheme for children every month, in order to influence the income of families that have one more child."

We have decided to more than double the financial support for students from needy families, which will reach half the minimum wage. Above all, I strongly believe that this new situation, cooked up for years in Europe and in Albania, as a result of reasons that are both similar and different, requires a new approach to everything that helps the physical socialization of people. Social networks have stimulated a loneliness of a very dangerous nature for democratic coexistence in a common social space.

"We need to open a debate on how and when we should limit access to social networks for minors, up to what age limit, 16 or 18, so that they no longer have any opportunity to have their own individual social networks. We will start a consultation, as we did in the case when we had to limit TikTok. We will start a discussion with teachers, parents and schools on limiting social networks for minors," Rama said.

Among other things, the Prime Minister affirmed that starting next year, children will stay in school until 5:00 PM.

"The work that needs to be done jointly between us and civil society interested in this area, to increase the range of children's social activities from sports to culture and in between are all the parts related to the stage, painting, crafts, art, film and photography and so on. Extending the stay of children in school is something that will begin immediately next year. We have set a special budget so that parents can work and children can be in school premises until 5:00 pm ," said Rama.
