As the deputies of the Albanian Parliament hold a plenary session, where the Socialist Party's proposal for the new territorial map is expected to be voted on, hundreds of citizens are protesting against this reform outside the Parliament premises.

The proposal envisages the merger of 15 municipalities and their union with larger neighboring units.

The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, accused the police of using violence against protesters and called on the leaders of the Assembly to intervene to stop it.

Bardhi: It is unacceptable for the State Police to serve as political police. It is unacceptable for citizens to be denied the right to protest and for the Parliament to be surrounded by metal wire. Let them immediately stop violating the law and violence against citizens. You must listen to the voice of the citizens who are protesting and demanding that you not vote on the depopulation map of the country. Mr. Speaker of the Parliament, call on the police to allow citizens to protest. Come out and order the police to stop the violence against citizens.

Bardhi also responded to the head of the SP Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, who during his speech in the Assembly said that SPAK is doing its job and that the majority supports independent investigations regarding the SHISH issue.

We recall that Vlora Hyseni, former head of SHISH, is under the security measure of "house arrest", after being accused of "revealing state secrets" and "supporting the perpetrator of the crime".

Bardhi also reminded Balla of the case of former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who is under investigation for violating equality in tenders and for whom the majority did not vote to lift immunity.

Bardhi: When I heard Taulant Balla come here and say 'we support SPAK', I thought he was going to apologize for the decision of March 12, where we voted 82 against to protect a corrupt person that you will drag out of the gym today, because you need votes to pass the reform. Before you sell us morals about how much you support SPAK, come here and apologize. Only after you do this, give us lectures on what we should do with SPAK prosecutors. You are a party, but the Albanian Parliament is not a party. Many of my colleagues are not Ergys Agas's team. Some of you are a party.
