Two weeks after Cardi B made headlines for throwing her microphone into a crowd, that microphone has sold on eBay for almost $100,000.

The microphone was auctioned off by the owner of an audio equipment rental company, who said all proceeds would go to charity.

The owner, Scott Fisher, told CBS that he had initially hoped that the offer would reach $5,000, writes the BBC.

Videos showed Cardi dropping the microphone after a fan threw a drink at her during a concert in Las Vegas.

Police have said the star will not face charges, while the footage quickly went viral and the outcry prompted Fisher to list the infamous item for sale.

The microphone was sold for $99,900.

Also, Fisher said proceeds will go to veterans' charity Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which connects young volunteers with people with disabilities and special needs.

"I thought it would get some national attention, but the amount of news coverage has been shocking," he said.

He said he had verified that the microphone for sale was indeed the one Cardi was using at the time.

"It is standard procedure to mark all microphones and in-ear systems to whom they 'go' before sound check, to ensure that the same person receives the correct items during the show," he added.

"You can see white tape on Cardi B's mic in all the videos, and that's how we knew which mic was hers," he added.

So Cardi B, while she was performing on stage, was thrown a liquid by someone in the audience, and at that moment the singer who was singing with a microphone in her hand shot the suspected person who sprayed her with liquid.

The person who Cardi punched with the microphone filed charges against her, but it was denied.
