Princess Diana's 'revenge dress' goes up for auction for $300,000

One of Princess Diana's most iconic dresses, known as the "revenge dress," is set to go up for auction again after 30 years. The Princess last wore it on June 29, 1994, the day her husband, King Charles, publicly admitted to cheating on her.

The black dress, tight behind the body and with exposed shoulders, created by a Greek designer, will be exhibited first in London, Hong Kong, Geneva and then in New York. There, on December 9, the dress is expected to be sold at auction for up to $300,000.

King Charles III publicly admitted in a television documentary that he had cheated on her, and the confession came at a time when the royal couple's marriage was under intense British media scrutiny. And Diana chose to respond not with words, but with her dress.

The black dress, paired with black heels and a black bag, red nails, and a distinctive diamond and sapphire pendant, became one of her most famous style moments in a matter of hours. Thus was born the name that would accompany it for decades: the "revenge dress."
