During a visit to the Mykolaiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with military troops who are fighting on the southern front line. The news was announced on Saturday by Mr. Zelenskiy himself, who did not give details of when he had visited the region.
In a video posted on his official Telegram account, the president appeared to hand out medals and pose for photos with Ukrainian soldiers, in what appeared to be an underground shelter.
"Our brave men. Each of them is working without hesitation. We will continue to resist and we will definitely win," he wrote.
In early March Russian forces reached the outskirts of Mykolaiv, but then turned to the eastern and southern reaches of the region, where fighting continues.
Mr. Zelenskiy's office said the president also visited the city as well as inspected a regional administration building, destroyed by a rocket attack by Russian troops, at the end of March. As a result, 37 people were killed.
The president also visited a hospital in Mykolaiv, as well as praised the work of Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych and Governor Vitaliy Kim during four months of Russian aggression, his office said in a separate statement.
