A Ukrainian soldier appears in a video walking on the battlefield, with threads that look like spider webs tangled around his legs.
But what are they really? They are fiber optics, with thousands of kilometers of fiber optics covering large areas of land in Ukraine, creating movement difficulties for both Ukrainian and Russian soldiers.
Fiber optics are used for warfare with small drones. For the first time in Ukraine, the large-scale use of remotely controlled suicide drones began, a tactic that was soon copied and adapted by the Ukrainian military.
Recently, it has even been reported that Russia has recruited hundreds of young people to command these armed drones through the Telegram app from their homes, without having to go to the battlefield.
But the massive use of drones has also exposed their weakness, that of interference with anti-drone waves to block them in the air. To avoid this, both the Russians and Ukrainians have fitted drones with fiber optics, which are extremely difficult to interfere with.
They are already launching drones attached to spools of fiber optics that in some cases reach up to 20 kilometers in length. Fiber optics is similar to the Spanish line used for fishing, it is extremely flexible but at the same time very resistant to breakage.
After using the drone, optical fibers remain scattered across the battlefield, as can be seen in this video.
