The leaders of Germany and France have warned Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic regarding the upcoming elections, Serbian daily Nova reported on Tuesday, citing diplomatic sources, that if he attempts to manipulate the electoral process in Serbia again, Europe will not recognize the results.
The warning, which was conveyed to Vučić through MPs close to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as through associates of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to analysts, significantly narrows the space for interference in the elections that are expected to be announced as a result of public pressure from the student movement.
"A message has been sent from some countries that Europe, if the elections are stolen, will not recognize the results, even though there are certain interests. Also, the possible distancing of the European People's Party from the Serbian Progressive Party is not ruled out."
In Brussels, according to the Serbian media source, serious dilemmas have arisen between European principles of democracy and the rule of law, and pragmatic interests, including the exploitation of lithium and the France-Serbia agreement for the sale of "Rafales".
