VIDEO: Leader of the Turkish Republican People's Party is punched

A serious incident occurred this Sunday in Turkey, where the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Özgür Özel, was physically attacked by a citizen after a public event in Istanbul.

According to local media, the incident occurred immediately after a meeting that Özel held at the Atatürk Cultural Center. As he was leaving the center's premises, a person identified as Selçuk Tengioğlu approached him and punched him.

The aggressor was immediately neutralized by Özel's bodyguards and then arrested by police forces.

Official sources indicate that the attacker is a high-risk individual with a serious criminal record. About 21 years ago, he was convicted of killing his two children after separating from his wife. For this crime, he served 16 years in prison and was later released on parole. He also appears to have been involved in other criminal offenses such as theft and drug trafficking.
