US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that peace between Russia and Ukraine, which he once promised he would achieve quickly, may not be achievable.

"Maybe it's not possible. There is tremendous hatred among those men," Trump said, speaking to NBC News.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview that he is confident that peace with Ukraine is just a matter of time.

According to him, Russia did not want war and was not prepared for it in 2014, but aimed for a peaceful solution in Donbas.

"We sincerely aspired to solve the Donbas problem by peaceful means. But it turned out that the other side thought and acted in a different direction," Putin said.
