Ukraine strikes Russian space rocket production center and air base

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Ukrainian forces had struck the Progress Space and Rocket Center in Russia's Samara region, a facility involved in the production and operation of space launch vehicles, Euronews reported.

In a post on the X network, Zelenskyy said the center was hit by a Flamingo FP-5 cruise missile, describing it as one of the main enterprises of the Russian space agency Roscosmos. According to him, the facility is also involved in the production of electronic equipment.

According to the Ukrainian president, other attacks were carried out on the Savasleyka air base in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where, according to him, aircraft used for missile attacks on Ukraine are stationed. Another target hit was an oil refinery in Ust-Luga, near the border with Estonia.

Zelenskyy also published footage that, he said, shows the aftermath of some of the strikes, where large columns of black smoke and flames can be seen in the distance.

"Our long-range sanctions plan against Russia for this war is being implemented and it is important that Russia's combat potential is reduced," he wrote.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine later confirmed the strikes on the Progress center and the air base, stating that fires had been recorded in their facilities.

According to the Ukrainian side, the launch vehicles manufactured at the Progress center are used to put Russian military, reconnaissance and communications satellites into orbit. The Savasleyka base is used for MiG-31K fighter jets, which can carry Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic missiles.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched 152 drones and stray munitions towards Ukrainian territory overnight. According to preliminary data, air defenses shot down or neutralized 124 of them, while hits were recorded in 16 areas.

Russian attacks have also caused casualties and injuries in several regions of Ukraine. In the Kherson region, 28 people were injured, including a child.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a child was killed and 11 people were injured in a series of attacks. Injuries were also reported in the Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions.
