Jason Arday, the former Cambridge University professor who was at the center of a plagiarism controversy in recent weeks, has been found dead in London.

Emergency services were alerted on Friday afternoon to a person found "unconscious" at an address in Battersea, south London.

In a statement, the Police announced that the 41-year-old's death is being treated as unexpected and there are no preliminary suspicions of other leads.

Arday resigned as a Cambridge professor last week, following accusations of plagiarism and questions over some of his academic achievements.

He had denied the accusations of plagiarism, although he had admitted that there had been errors in his work.

Last week, Arday stated that recent controversies surrounding his work had brought a "relentless level of public attention and personal attacks."

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Professor Deborah Prentice, expressed shock at the news.

"We were deeply saddened to hear this tragic news," she said, adding: "Our deepest condolences go out to Jason Arday's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
