Mexico has announced that the United States will postpone the imposition of 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico for a month, following a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
This development comes after an agreement between the two leaders, which includes a commitment by Mexico to strengthen the border with 10,000 National Guard troops, who will be immediately sent to the field.
These troops will prioritize preventing drug trafficking in the US, with a particular focus on fentanyl (a dangerous drug), which has been one of Trump's main concerns.
President Sheinbaum added that the United States has also committed to working to prevent arms trafficking from Mexico.
Meanwhile, President Trump has had a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"Canada doesn't even allow American banks to open or do business there. What is this about? Lots of things like that, but it's also a DRUG WAR, and hundreds of thousands of people have died in the US from drugs pouring across the Mexican and Canadian borders," Trump wrote on his social media platform "Truth."
The tariffs imposed by Trump on Canada will take effect tomorrow.
