Iranian media reported on Tuesday that the leader of the terrorist group Hamas, designated by the United States and the European Union, will travel to Tehran to meet with Iranian officials.
Press TV confirmed that Hamas leader Haniyeh will travel to Tehran on March 26.
Hezbollah-run Lebanese television Al Mayadeen TV reported that Haniyeh will hold a press conference with Iran's foreign minister.
His visit to Iran comes just a day after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Iran has supported Hamas in its six-month war with Israel, which has killed more than 32,000 Palestinians in Gaza.
This will be Haniyeh's second visit to Iran since the war broke out on October 7, when members of Hamas launched a surprise attack in southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping around 250 others.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani called Monday's resolution a "positive step."
"A more important step is effective action for its implementation," said Kanaani, speaking about the Security Council resolution for a cease-fire in Gaza.
Hamas welcomed the resolution, but said the ceasefire should be permanent.
