Russian President Vladimir Putin has admitted that the March 22 terrorist attack in Moscow was carried out by an Islamic terrorist cell.
However, during a statement to the media, Putin again tried to cast doubt that Ukraine may be involved in this attack.
"The terrorist attack was carried out by radicalized Islamists. But we are interested in finding out who ordered it," said Putin.
He again raised the question of why, after the attack with 139 victims, the terrorists left for Ukraine. "Who was waiting for them there?" Putin said.
The March 22 attack "could be a link in a series of attempts by those who have been at war with Russia since 2014 at the hands of the Kiev regime," Putin declared.
Ukraine has denied having anything to do with the terrorists and has called statements that they were planning to escape to Ukrainian territory untrue.
