The rapporteur of the United Nations, Fabian Salvioli, has warned of the danger of starting a war between Kosovo and Serbia. After the visit to both countries, the special rapporteur Fabian Salvioli assessed that the public irresponsibility of the leaders, especially the Kosovar ones, to continue the dialogue could lead to a repetition of the armed conflict.
"Glorification of war criminals and denial of war crimes is an ongoing practice in both countries. Kosovo authorities have a lack of will to prosecute and punish cases of war crimes, in which former members of the Kosovo Liberation Army are suspected to have been involved. We need an effective and functional program for the protection of witnesses, which is currently missing in Kosovo ", said Salvioli.
Regarding the Specialized Chambers in The Hague, where former KLA leaders are tried, the special rapporteur noted that the reluctance of witnesses to testify due to fear of reprisals is essentially hindering progress in delivering justice for war crimes .
The UN report proves that the authorities in Kosovo have not provided the relevant documentation for the missing persons during the war. This report will be examined at the sessions of the Council for the Protection of Human Rights, which will be held at the UN headquarters from September 11 to October 6 of this year.
