One of the largest organizations for the protection of journalists and freedom of the media has reacted to the decision of the Government of Kosovo to suspend the Klan Kosova media certificate. Reporters Without Borders have said that such a decision seriously threatens the pluralism of information.
According to this organization, by suspending the certificate of Klan Kosova, the Government of Kurti is pushing the television towards closure and they have called for the decision to be overturned.
"Kosovo: pluralism of information is seriously threatened with the rejection of the complaint by the largest private media in the country, Klan Kosova! By leaving the suspension of its business certificate in effect, Albin Kurti's government is pushing it towards closure. This decision must be withdrawn" , the announcement states.
What happened to Klan Kosova?
On June 14, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, through a communique for the media, made a decision to suspend the business certificate of the Trade Company of Klan Kosova television. The Independent Media Commission (IMC), after a meeting held on June 16, had given Klan Kosova television a deadline of 30 days to complete the necessary business documentation in ARBK.
The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade announced that it rejected Klan Kosova's appeal for the suspension of the business license. ARBK's reasoning for the suspension of the certificate was that, in the registration documents of the company that owns the business in question, "KGO Media Invest DOOEL", the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo are presented as cities of Serbia, which constitutes a violation of the Constitution.
