A top Iranian military adviser warned Israel on Sunday that none of its embassies are safe anymore, following last week's attack in Damascus blamed on Israel.

Regional tensions have risen threatening to widen the conflict in the Middle East as the war between Israel and Hamas - a group declared a terrorist by the United States and the European Union - entered its seventh month on Sunday.

Comments by General Rahim Safavi, who is a military adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hint that Iran will respond with the same coin to the attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria on April 1, which killed two Iranian generals.

Israel — in its usual practice — has not commented on the attack on Damascus. "None of the [Israeli] regime's embassies are safe anymore," Safavi said, The Tasnim news agency reported.

He made the remarks during a ceremony in Tehran for the generals killed in the attack that razed the Iranian consulate building to the ground.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was prepared for any response. "Whoever harms us, or intends to harm us, will harm himself," he said during a meeting of the Israeli cabinet.

CBS News reported on April 5 that U.S. intelligence had hinted Tehran was planning an attack that would involve Shahed drones and floating missiles.

The target or timing of the possible attack is not known, but hitting an Israeli diplomatic building would be a proportionate response, the report said. The United States on Saturday warned Iran not to attack U.S. troops and bases in the Middle East.
