A 43-year-old Venezuelan security guard has been pulled alive from the rubble of a shopping mall in La Guaira, eight days after the building collapsed following a series of powerful earthquakes.
According to search and rescue teams, he had been trapped in the basement of the building since the moment of the collapse.
Despite extremely difficult conditions, such as a lack of food and water, he managed to survive until he was located and rescued.
Authorities have described this case as a miracle, stressing that he may be one of the last survivors found after this disaster, writes CNN.
Meanwhile, the toll from the tragedy remains heavy. Around 50,000 people are still reported missing, while search and rescue operations continue in difficult conditions. The rescue of the 43-year-old has restored hope amid this tragedy, proving that there may still be people alive under the rubble.
Venezuelan authorities have announced that the number of victims has so far exceeded 2,000 people.
