London: Russian offensive in Donbas has lost momentum

The Russian offensive in Donbass "lost momentum and remained significantly behind the plans". Thus stated the British Defence Ministry in the latest intelligence update on the situation in Ukraine, explaining that "despite initial small-scale progress, Russia has failed to achieve significant victories on the ground in the last month".

Russia, now likely to have suffered the loss of a third of the combat forces on the ground engaged in February.

'Russian forces are increasingly limited by deteriorating capabilities, continued low morale and reduced combat efficiency. Many of these capabilities cannot be replaced or fulfilled quickly and are likely to continue to hinder Russian operations in Ukraine.
