Pietro and Paolo, are only 4 and 6 years old, who were abused and abandoned by their parents.
They were taken by police to the emergency room of the Umberto I hospital in Rome on May 10 at 16:47 local time.
The two abandoned minors were malnourished and had wounds on their bodies. This was announced by the hospital itself, which tells their story on social networks, Corriere reports.
Their first words were a cry for help: " We don't want to go back to mom, we're hungry, we want ice cream ."
The hospital staff, led by Dr. Laura De Vito, doctor of the Department of Health, treated the children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Dr. Papov, where they stayed until May 17, to then be transferred to pediatric gastroenterology.
They had serious problems with food. Due to the remains present in the stomach, it is believed that they had eaten soil.
The hospital's official website posted the story of the two brothers on its Facebook page.
"Two children aged just 4 and 6 were sent by the police to our emergency room on May 10 at 4:47 p.m. The two brothers, for whom we will use not real names Pietro and Paolo, were found by the police alone and abandoned in an area outside the ring. They showed signs of malnutrition, dirt, bruises and wounds. They were in a state of total abandonment," the doctors explain.
Due to the serious incident, custody of the children has been removed. On July 6, the children left the hospital. It was reported that the 6-year-old was immediately transferred to the new home, while the 4-year-old first underwent a delicate operation in Pediatric Neurosurgery.
