The head of information at the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague, Angela Griep, said that the court ordered the continuation of detention for Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veseli on Wednesday.
The Trial Panel stated that there is a sufficient risk that Thaçi and Veseli will obstruct the progress of the process and commit other crimes.
They also said that communications can be restricted in a way that sufficiently reduces these risks only by implementing the communications monitoring framework used in the Specialized Chambers detention facility.
"On August 16, the Trial Panel ordered the continuation of the detention of Hashim Thaçi and Kadri Veseli. The Trial Panel found that there is a sufficient risk that Mr. Thaçi and Mr. Veseli obstruct the progress of the process and commit other crimes.
The Trial Panel found that communications can be limited in a way that sufficiently reduces these risks only by implementing the communications monitoring framework used in the Specialized Chambers detention facility," Griep stated in the court's regular weekly briefing.
They have been in the detention center in The Hague since November 2020, where on April 3 the trial against Thaçi and others began with opening statements where they all pleaded not guilty to charges of alleged war crimes.
