Iran's Revolutionary Guard said on Tuesday that no US Navy ship had "dared" to approach the Strait of Hormuz, following a statement by a senior official in Washington who claimed that a warship had escorted a tanker through the strategic waterway.
"None of the American warships dared to even approach the Sea of Oman, the Persian Gulf or the Gulf of Hormuz during the war," said Guard spokesman Ali Mohammad Naini, calling the claim "a pure lie."
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright initially said the Navy had escorted an oil tanker through the Gulf, but the post was deleted minutes after it was published.
