Russian President Vladimir Putin personally thanked his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday for the agreements on grain export and gas.
During the one-on-one meeting held in Sochi, Putin underlined that the wheat being exported is not only Ukrainian, but also Russian, reports the "Tass" news agency.
Among other things, the head of the Kremlin declared that Europe should be grateful to Turkey for the purchase it makes of Russian gas through the "Turkish Stream" gas pipeline.
"For many countries, such decisions are particularly important, which happened with your direct involvement. I want to thank you for that," Putin said.
Earlier, the Turkish president's communications director, Fahrettin Altun, said the international community cannot end the war in Ukraine by ignoring Moscow.
"It is true that some of our friends do not want the war to end. They are shedding crocodile tears," Altun told Reuters, adding that "some are actively trying to undermine Turkey's efforts," without specifying who he was referring to.
The international community cannot end the war in Ukraine by ignoring Russia. Diplomacy and peace must prevail." Altun said.
Russian President Putin said that "Russia has many strategic projects that are being realized together with Turkey", during the meeting with the Turkish President. "Russia is looking forward to increasing the volume of trade with Turkey," he added. Putin also praised his Turkish counterpart Erdogan for his role in signing a landmark deal to unblock Ukraine's wheat exports.
Friday's meeting between the two leaders is the second in a month. Ankara has expressed support for Ukraine, but has not undertaken sanctions against Moscow.
