AUDIO/ How Mojtaba Khamenei escaped: He went out into the garden before Israel

An audio clip released and seen by The Telegraph reveals that Mojtaba Khamenei was targeted in the same attack that killed his father and other members of Iran's leadership. The audio reveals that he had gone outside "to do something" shortly before Israeli Blue Sparrow ballistic missiles hit the palace at 9:32 a.m. local time on February 28.

A speech given by Mazaher Hosseini, the chief of protocol for Ali Khamenei's office, to senior clerics and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps provides the first detailed account of what happened inside the supreme leader's compound when he was shot.

Hosseini revealed that Mojtaba Khamenei was wounded in the leg during the attacks, while his wife and son were killed instantly and his brother-in-law was beheaded.

The body of Mohammad Shirazi, the head of Khamenei’s military office, was also “dismembered.” Only “a few kilograms of flesh” could be used to identify him, Mr. Hosseini said at the meeting, which took place on March 12 in Tehran’s Kolhak neighborhood.

Mojtaba Khamenei lived in the same compound as his father in the Iranian capital. It also housed a religious hall where Ali Khamenei gave speeches, as well as the homes of Khamenei's other children.

On February 28, Ali Khamenei and senior security officials were gathered for a meeting when missiles struck the complex. Mohammad Pakpour, the head of the IRGC, Aziz Nasirzadeh, Iran's defense minister, and Ali Khamenei were among the casualties.

In the recording, Hosseini is heard saying: "It was God's will that Mojtaba went out into the yard to do something and then came back. He was outside climbing up when the building was hit by a rocket. His wife, Haddad, died instantly."

Hosseini says Mojtaba suffered only “a minor injury to his leg.” According to Hosseini, the attacks targeted several locations within the office complex simultaneously and appeared to be aimed at eliminating the entire Khamenei family.

“These devils had planned to attack various locations within the office complex – one of them was the residence of the supreme leader,” he said. “They hit this location with three missiles.”

Mojtaba's house upstairs was also damaged, as was the residence downstairs, which belonged to his brother-in-law, Misbah al-Huda Bagheri Kani, and the home of his brother, Mustafa, and his wife.

Among other things, Hosseini says: “The enemy knew that while they were hitting the Supreme Leader, they were also hitting him, because they knew that he would replace those who had been killed and, when new commanders were appointed, they would have the opportunity to influence the protesters. They tore him to pieces. They found nothing of him and in the end they found a few kilograms of flesh and identified it as his body.”
