The project for the Port of Durrës, the EU opposes, cancels the 28 million

After the public reservations about the transformation project of the Port of Durrës, the European Union has advanced by undertaking a concrete act against; the cancellation of a 28 million euro grant that was intended for investment in this port.

This grant was intended to support the realization of the project for the reconstruction of quays 1 and 2 of the eastern terminal of the port, which serve for the loading and unloading of vessels transporting oil and gas.

In a reaction given to the media, the EU office has justified the act with the fact that the current port has changed its purpose of use and as a result the project has been modified.

This is not the first time that the European Union expresses reservations about the Albanian government's project to transfer the port of Durrës to Porto Romano. Meanwhile, it is expected that the government will take a decision on opening the tender for the construction of the new commercial port. The construction of the commercial port in the Porto Romano area paves the way for the space transformation project created by the transfer of the existing port, a $2 billion project where the developer with whom the government has signed an agreement is Muhammed El Alabbar.
