For two weeks, Albanians have been paying the price of oil only on the increase, and in the absence of a citizen's reaction, the board of Ceti raises it every time it meets.
In the deeply clientelistic history of this board, there was a case when the price was revised within the day with an increase. But when it comes to lowering it, Chet's board gets lazy.
As a rule, the board should have met when the international oil market fell. However, the board of Ceti meets only when the price of fuel increases on the international stock market and during all these days Albanians bought a liter of oil at the points controlled by Shefqet Kastrati up to 20 lek more expensive than at the points outside the control of the hydrocarbon cartel. as MP Erion Braçe calls it.
If the average daily consumption of about 1500 tons per day is taken, just from this difference in price, Çet Kastrati has collected about 600 million lek per day. The daily profit of the companies at these prices amounts to about 1 billion lek, or about 1 million euros. Çeti has the lion's share, the rest is shared with Gega and what is left with the smallest, who in any case do not have the gluttony of these two.
The socialist deputy, Erion Braçe, has described the board as the legislator of the fuel cartel, showing that in the retail outlets that supply Kastrati and Gega, but which are not under their control, the price is up to 20 lek cheaper.
That the price of oil has increased in the global markets these days is a fact, but it is also a fact that the price increase in the international markets has been reflected twice in Albania compared to the countries of the region.
In North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia, oil is 30 to 50 lek per liter cheaper than in Albania.
For years, Kastrati and Gega jointly own the vast majority of the market, both in terms of import and retail sales in the market. Only Kastrati owns 70 percent of the wholesale market and 50 percent of the retail market.
The investigation revealed the fact that the oil in Albania is completely outside the standards with which it is traded on paper and in the vast majority it is gasoil mixed with diesel or kerosene and the refining of the product is not complete. In addition to the cost and the impact it has on the depreciation and destruction of vehicles, this type of oil also has a staggering cost on the environment, as it releases carcinogenic toxic substances into the air.
