Six candidates of Albanian origin competed in the midterm elections in the United States, but only one of them managed to secure victory.
Joe Hoxha, a Republican in Connecticut, was re-elected to a third term in the state House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Diamant Hysenaj lost the race for the US Congress in New York, facing Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
In the election for New York's 14th district, which includes areas of the Bronx and Queens, AOC secured 78.7% of the vote, while Hysenaj received 21.5%.
The result solidifies Ocasio-Cortez's position as one of the most popular figures on the progressive wing of the Democrats. Meanwhile, her name is increasingly being mentioned as a possible candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
Peter Lumaj and Shpëtim Qorraj also suffered losses in the races in Connecticut and New York, as well as Alma Sarelli in the race for the Connecticut Senate.
Edlira Sako, an Albanian from Lushnja, ran for the Democratic Party in the Michigan State Senate, in District 24.
She faced Republican Douglas Wozniak. However, projections put her at just 30% of the vote, compared to 70% for her Republican rival.
