Tirana-Durres, the first 5 kilometers start next year and cost 20 million euros

Works on the expansion of the Tirana-Durres highway will start next year for the first 5 kilometers, while the axis, unlike previous projects, will not be tolled.

The director of ARRSH, Evis Berberi, told the show INSIDER on SCAN television, that this project will come closer in time, due to the emergency caused by traffic congestion. According to him, the road is designed for a maximum of 30 thousand vehicles in 24 hours, but at the peak of the tourist season it reached 93 thousand vehicles per day.

"The first phase starts from the overpass of the Kamza bend and ends at the Rinas overpass. It will be a 4-lane road, of category A. Here it will connect with northbound traffic. Then in the second phase we will connect with the big node that is being built at City Park and then gradually we will go towards Durrës in other phases, to precede the development that will happen in this area, such as the Port of Ri i Merclave in Porto Romano, the Marina of Durrës, but also the Bay of Lalzi, which will receive more and more development and, consequently, vehicle traffic", said Berberi.

The director of the Albanian Road Authority stated that this vital axis will always be free for vehicle users, while also revealing the preliminary costs for this expansion project.

"The first phase costs 20 million euros for the 5 kilometers. In the first and second segment, up to Vora. We will not have problems with expropriations, as we will extend to the canal line", said Berberi.

At the same time, next year the intervention in the system of the Kombinat-Plepa axis, known as the Ndroqi road, will begin. The road will be widened to 10 meters, while the turns will also be systematized.
